The NESCAC leader in interceptions a year ago, Thaw snagged two more yesterday including a 30-yard pick-six. His first interception occured in the first quarter with the game tied at 7-7. He returned it 16 yards to the Middlebury-24, and just three players later, the Cardinals capitalized to take their first lead of the game as they went up 14-7.
Later in the game, the Panthers scored right before halftime to cut the deficit to 10 and received the ball first in the second half. However, Thaw ruined any chance Middlebury had of building momentum as he picked off Jack Meservy and ran 30 yards for the score as the home team went ahead 31-14 and never looked back.
Thaw now has six career interceptions in 15 games. Additionally, he recorded six tackles yesterday as Wesleyan's defense held the league's top passing attack a year ago (306.1 yards/game) to 266 yards through the air and only 27 yards rushing.
The Cardinals are back in action next Saturday, Sept. 22 and will play Tufts on the road. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
