Marce Petroccio

Marce Petroccio enters his 25th season as head coach of Staples Football with an overall record of 197 wins and 66 losses. Through leadership and discipline, Coach P has established the Staples program as one of the best in the state. The Wreckers won the FCIAC Championship in 1997, 2003, 2009, 2011 and 2012, and won the Class M State Championship in 2002, and the Class L State Championship in 2004 and 2005. The Wreckers are featured at the New England Football Exhibit at the Hall at Patriot Place and the Staples program has also been ranked the number one program in the State of Connecticut over the past ten years by

For his excellence in coaching, Petroccio has received numerous awards and accolades. He was named the 2002, 2003, 2009 and 2011 FCIAC Coach of the Year. In 2013, he was named one of the top USA Today's Coach of the Year. In 2004, Petroccio was honored by the New York Giants as the Lou Rettino High School Football Coach of the Year. In 2007, Petroccio was honored by his peers by being named the Coach of the Year by the Connecticut High School Coaches Association. On October 12, 2007, Petroccio became the alltime winning coach in Staples High School history with 123 wins in 15 years. In 2014 he was inducted into the Connecticut High School Hall of Fame, the FCIAC Hall of Fame, and the Greater Bridgeport Hall of Fame.

Petroccio also serves on the Connecticut Interscholastic Althletic Conference Football Committee. Petroccio attended Trumbull High School, where he played tight end and defensive end for the legendary Jerry McDougal, including a perfect 11-0 senior campaign where the team was ranked number one in the state and New England. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in physical education at Southern Connecticut State University where he played for former UCONN Head Coach Paul Pasqualoni, who also gave him his first opportunity in coaching in 1982 at Western Connecticut State University. After serving as linebackers and defensive backs coach at Western Connecticut, Petroccio spent three years as an assistant at Cheshire High School under current Boston College Head Coach Steve Addazio. In 1993, Petroccio assumed the head coaching position at Staples.

In addition to his coaching duties, Petroccio teaches PE at Staples High School and resides in Ridgefield with his wife Julie and daughters Gianna and Aleah.


Craig Bruno

Craig Bruno comes to Staples after a 4 year stint as the Naugatuck High School head football coach. Previously, he was the head coach at Bunnell High School for 12 years. His teams compiled a 123 47 career record, including 2 class l state titles. His 2007 team was 13-0 and ranked number 2 in CT. He has coached numerous division 1 athletes, including Marcus Easley, a 6 year member of the Buffalo Bills. He has been named CIAC coach of the year, Walter Camp CT high school coach of the year, as well as, New York Giants tri state coach of the year. Currently, Bruno is a physical education teacher for the Bridgeport Board of Education. He resides in Oxford, CT with his wife, Eileen and two daughters, Marisa 18 and Kristina 15.


Jesse McCray

Jesse McCray enters his 25th year on the Staples Football staff. Jesse is a graduate and 3 year varsity letterman in football at Branford High School where he was elected Captain his senior year. Jesse went to Western Connecticut where he played for Paul Pasqualoni.- after receiving his B.S. in Social science Coach McCray started his coaching career at Danbury High High School. During his tenure at Danbury High school, The Hatters were 1990 Fciac Champions and Class LL State Runner ups. In 2002, he was named the CHSCA Assistant Football Coach of The Year. Jesse is also the Head Coach of the Staples Indoor Track team which he led to Fciac Titles in 2013, 2015, and State Titles in 2014, 2015. Coach McCray has received numerous Coach of the Year Honors from the Ct Post and in 2015 he was named the U.S Track and Field/ XC Connecticut Coach of the Year. Jesse is a Grade Level Assistant at Staples High School and resides in Spring Glen with his wife Michele and sons Gabriel, and Christopher.


Jack McFarland

Coach McFarland enters his 22nd year on The Staples football staff.He previously coached baseball and football coach at Fairfield H.S. From 1989-1994. Jack has coached numerous players who received All League, All Area and All State during his tenure. In 2004 he was selected CHSCA Assistant Football Coach of the year. Coach McFarland is also head coach of the 2017 State Champion baseball program at Staples. Jack resides in Monroe with his wife Norma and 4 daughters Kelly , Kenzie , Megan and Abby.


Jim Vadas

Coach Vadas is a 1982 graduate of Andrew Warde High School where he played four years of football, three at the Varsity level. He was Captain his senior year. Throughout his football career he earned Andre Warde Defensive MVP three consecutive years, All Conference MVP two consecutive years, All State Tight End (New Haven Register), Daily News All Star and was an Honorable Mention High School All American. Jim returns this season with 30 years of coaching experience within the FCIAC division, with many of those years under legendary Coach Jerry MacDougall. In addition to coaching, he is the owner of Marquee Pools and Services, Inc. in Fairfield, CT. He resides in Fairfield with his wife Allison and their daughters Olivia and Kaia.


Alex Horton

Alex Horton enters his 2nd year coaching at Staples. Alex graduated from Cheshire High School in 1991, earning All- State and All League honors, playing under Coach Petroccio and Coach Addazio. He attended the University of Connecticut, playing football during the 92/93 seasons. Alex began his coaching career at Cheshire High under Coach Addazio, winning 2 State Championships. He was the position coach for players who earned All-State honors. Currently, Alex also coaches the Westport PAL 6th grade team. He is the Co-Chairman of the CHS Football Alumni Association, and the Co-Chairman of Greens Farms Church Outreach Department. Alex is the owner of BRBG Insurance Agency, in Shelton, CT, and resides in Westport with his wife Kirsten and their children, Grace and James.


Chris Pace

Coach Pace comes to Staples High School after a 3 year stint at Weston High School where he served as Head Coach. Prior to Weston, he was Head Football Coach for East Harlem Pride in New York, NY where he started the school's football program and led them to their first playoff appearance in their second season. Pace is a graduate of Wolcott High School and went on to earn his Physical Education and Health degree from Springfield College where he played football for the Pride. He is currently a physical education and health teacher in Weson, CT. He resides in Sandy Hook with his wife Dacia and their two children, son Cooper and daughter Callie.


Brian Krost

Coach Krost is entering his first year on the Staples Football coaching staff. He spent last season at Wilton High School where he was the Freshman Wide Receiver & Secondary coach. He has been a pitching coach and Athletic Site Director for Ludlowe High School. Brian earned a B.A. in Communications at Western Connecticut State University, where he also pitched, garnering All-LEC honors. He earned his MBA at University of Bridgeport. Brian is currently a substitute teacher in Fairfield.. He has been coaching youth sports for over 10 years and is the Lead Instructor for Fairfield American Little League’s Future Stars program. Brian has volunteered for local leagues and organizations such as Stamford Peace Basketball and Greenwich & Norwalk Youth Flag Football. He resides in Norwalk with his parents Lee & Lynn and his brother John.


Ernie Ricco

Ricco has garnered 8 championships in 19 years in 3 divisions from Collegiate to High School to Youth including #3 NCAA nationally ranked undefeated NE-10 Champion University of New Haven, #1 ranked undefeated Connecticut State Champion Darien High School, Western Connecticut State University, SUNY Maritime College, Westhill High School and Wilton Youth Football where he recorded a .888 post season winning percentage. He has coached every position as a Position, Coordinator and Head Coach, has worked numerous NFL and Collegiate camps/clinics, coached numerous Athletic and Academic All Americans, All Conference and National Scholar Athletes, and numerous players that have gone on to D1 Collegiate & NFL careers. Ricco is a member of the NCAA Collegiate AFCA Coach of the Year Committee, part of the creation and implementation of the upstart professional Arena Football League in the 1980s, President & CEO of a Property Management & Operations business, a past and present elected government official and a United States Senatorial & Congressional Delegate. Ricco currently resides in Wilton, Connecticut, with his wife Brenda of 29 years and their six children ranging from 13 to 26 years of age.


Michael Giunta

Mike enters his third year as a member of the Staples coaching staff as an offensive and defensive line coach and co-coach for junior varsity. Mike is also a certified personal trainer and heads the Staples Football strength and conditioning program. Mike played for the Staples Wreckers on the offensive and defensive line alongside his twin brother Chris and was a member of the 2009 FCIAC championship team. Mike has coached Westport PAL football teams over the last 10 years. Mike was also a Staples High School 4 year varsity wrestler and 2 year wrestling captain. Mike is a graduate of Quinnipiac University with a B.A. degree in Criminal Justice with a concentration in Accounting. Mike is employed by the Town of Westport as Dock Master for the Town’s marinas.


Chris Giunta

Chris joins the Staples coaching staff as an assistant offensive and defensive line coach and an assistant coach for junior varsity. Chris also assists with the Staples Football strength and conditioning program. Chris played for the Staples Wreckers on the offensive line as Center alongside his twin brother Mike and was a member of the 2009 FCIAC championship team. Chris has coached Westport PAL football teams over the last 10 years. Chris was also a Staples High School 4 year varsity wrestler and 2 year wrestling captain. Chris is a graduate of Quinnipiac University with a Doctorate in Physical Therapy and is employed by Professional Physical Therapy in Southport.


Drew Smith

Drew grew up in Norwalk and is a graduate of Brien McMahon High School where he lettered in 3 sports. Drew was a 3-year varsity starter in football at RB and DB, 2-time all-FCIAC and all-area team. He was a 3-year starter on the lacrosse team at midi with honors at all-FCIAC 2 years in a row and all-area team for 3 years. He also spent 2 years in the varsity basketball program. After high school, Drew went on to play 4 years of college lacrosse at Herkimer where they won the national championship and later transferred to Adelphi University. He has been the assistant varsity coach for the lacrosse team at Staples for the past 4 years as well as the Head Coach for the freshman girls basketball team. He is an educator in the Staples High School’s Special Education department and is married to Ashley Cote Smith and father to Dez Joseph who was born Dec 27th.

Gaetana Deiso

“G” is certified with the National Athletic Trainer’s Association and is licensed through the state of Connecticut. She graduated from Springfield College in 1999 with a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training and a minor in Nutrition. She begins her 13th year as Head Athletic Trainer at Staples. Prior to Staples, she worked 5 years as Head Athletic Trainer at Greens Farms Academy and at Moore Center for Rehabilitation. She also worked with Fairfield University’s football and rugby teams from 1999 to 2002. In the summer of 2002, she worked at Boyle’s Strength and Conditioning in Boston, where she trained many professional athletes and Olympic athletes. She was also on the CATA Secondary School Committee from 2007-2012. "G" is a Certified Functional Strength Coach and a TFW (Training For Warriors) Certified Coach. She is the owner of Body Blast Sports Performance. She lives in Trumbull with her husband, Doug, and daughters, Michaela and Gabriella.


Corey Lamonico

Corey is certified with the National Athletic Trainer’s Association and is licensed through the state of Connecticut. She graduated from Sacred Heart University in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training. Upon graduation Corey worked for Forme Rehabilitation in New York where she was contracted to Eastchester, Tuckahoe, Mount Vernon, & New Rochelle High Schools. She returned to Connecticut in 2009, worked for Innovative Health & Rehabilitation, and covered New Canaan Youth Football, Staples High School in the winter, and worked in the clinic setting during the spring and summer. She is entering her 7th year as Assistant Athletic Trainer at Staples High School. She is also a Certified Kinesio Taping Practioner. Corey is originally from Hartsdale, New York and currently lives in Bridgeport.

Sophia Lovice

Sophia is currently a Junior at Sacred Heart University, majoring in Athletic Training. She is from Rhinebeck, New York and went to Red Hook High School where she played soccer. Sophia is currently a member of the Student Athletic Training Organization at Sacred Heart. She previously interned with club sports at Sacred Heart, working mainly with the men’s rugby team. She hopes to work at a high school after graduating, and will eventually go to graduate school as well.
